According to the body of the announcement, on Thursday 13 March 2025 at 18:30, at the Institut français Firenze in Piazza Ognissanti 2, Jacopo Baboni Schilingi presents his latest book, La Signature. Douze propositions pour la création de la musique au XXIe siècle, published by Mimesis, in conversation with Pierre Gervasoni, a journalist at Le Monde.
“Creative” music, sometimes called “art” music and previously described as “learned” music, is undergoing a profound crisis. This text aims to be a manifesto, a constructive critique and a possible response to the identity crisis of exploratory music. The first part is a sociological, systemic, technological and epistemological analysis of this crisis, which artificial intelligence has accelerated. The second offers twelve ways out of the impasse.
Jacopo Baboni Schilingi is a composer and Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres living in Paris. He writes music for concerts, films and interactive installations. The source credits him with more than 450 works realised in 33 countries. It describes him as the initiator of consubstantial aesthetics, combining human intelligence with algorithmic intelligence, now called artificial intelligence, which he has used since 1996.
Pierre Gervasoni is a music teacher trained at the Paris Conservatoire. He works both as a teacher and a journalist, notably as a music critic for Le Monde since 1996.
Admission is free. The source includes booking and further-information links.
