A composer and a guitarist-composer, computer music, and a new, unique kind of instrument: the soñada, an eleven-string extended guitar built in 2018 by luthier Carlos Gonzalez. Tradition and a projection towards unprecedented future scenarios meet in Wolf 1069. The project takes its name from a red dwarf, a small star orbited by Wolf 1069b, an exoplanet very similar to Earth.
This potential world, discovered in 2023, is the subject of the open work by Jacopo Baboni Schilingi and Christian Lavernier, Italians with an international outlook who have long lived in Paris, and who are both its creators and performers: Baboni Schilingi on live computer and Lavernier on the soñada.
An uninterrupted suite, internally divided into ten tracks. It brings together the acoustic sound of the soñada and computer processing based on algorithms: a combination of generativity, interactivity and artificial intelligence, composition and live performance. The importance of the visual and theatrical dimension is also very apparent in the video version of the work.
Wolf 1069 is rich in resonances of music from the distant and recent past, including echoes of popular music, folk and jazz. At the same time, it revives the idea of a complexity arising from the relationship between composition as a practice of writing, on the one hand, and gestural and performative interaction, on the other, strengthening and expanding their respective characteristics. Wolf 1069 is a very moving and thoroughly enjoyable experience: a liberating journey towards new musical horizons that can be seductive without compromising depth of thought.
