A participatory project by musician Baboni Schilingi, resident at Le Murate. By Sabrina Carollo.
Florence. An open invitation to residents to give their dreams to artist Jacopo Baboni Schilingi. Aiming to create an installation to return to the city in September, entitled Il Respiro dei sogni, the artist and musician resident at MAD–Murate Art District invites anyone interested to join him on 24, 25 and 26 May, from 10 a.m. to noon and 5.30 to 7.30 p.m., in the Terzo Giardino, the green lung beside the Arno.
Anyone wishing may stroll freely for up to ten minutes, recording one or more dreams as a voice message on their phone: possible or utopian dreams, dreams dreamt asleep or with eyes open. Each message will later be interpreted by an actress recording all the women’s contributions and an actor voicing the men’s dreams, protecting the anonymity of those offering their reflections.
Each participant will also wear a chest sensor recording heartbeats and measuring breathing. The artist will integrate these physiological data into the work and the sound score he composes and dedicates to each dream. It is a lyrical, inclusive moment in which art is once again a powerful means of empathetic gathering.
“It will be a great collective work,” commented MAD artistic director Valentina Gensini, “in which residents can share—albeit entirely anonymously—their dreams, their future-oriented imagination and the utopias we wish to nurture together. The original compositions the artist dedicates to each account will form a site-specific polyphonic work that will remain in our city.”
Anyone may take part, without limits of residence or age, in the universal spirit characteristic of art. Access is guaranteed for those with walking difficulties; anyone wishing may book a specific time with MAD.
Invitation: MAD and Baboni Schilingi invite everyone to give their dreams to the city. They will be reworked anonymously so contributors cannot be identified.
