The Coinema Quartet at the castle as open-air dances continue.
Among today’s Vacanze a Milano events, the 9 p.m. concert in Castello Sforzesco’s Cortile della Rocchetta stands out. As part of the Dialoghi series, the Coinema percussion quartet performs Stockhausen, Reich and Baboni Schilingi.
The recently formed ensemble, comprising very young pupils of David Searcy, explores contemporary music’s different territories in search of percussion instruments’ infinite sonorities. Performers are Cristian Calcagnile, Dario Palermo, Marco Pezzenati and Davide Ravioli, previously heard in Milan with Freiburg’s Staatliche Hochschule percussionists, conducted by Bernhard Wulff.
They will perform Stockhausen’s zodiac-inspired Tierkreis and one of Reich’s most successful minimalist works, Music for Pieces of Wood, a rhythmic construction for claves, wooden instruments of African origin. Mary Pituello will then conduct Quartetto by young composer Baboni Schilingi, a work connected with the most advanced avant-garde experiments.
Admission is free, as for all Vacanze a Milano events, but reservations are required during the stated booking hours.
Trio Exploit also plays in Piazza del Cannone tonight at 7.30 p.m. At 10.45 p.m., the same area hosts a tribute to Mina and Lucio Battisti.
Dancing is still flourishing on floors lit from 9 p.m.: Sergio Novaresi’s orchestra plays at the Darsena in Porta Ticinese; Donato e Lisa at Parco di Trenno; and Silver Star at Cascina Monluè in the Forlanini area.
