Within the context of the exhibition « La Poste inspire des artistes » from 11th of March to 31st of October at the Musée de La Poste in Paris, Miguel Chevalier has created a new and original digital and interactive installation of virtual reality called “Letters in the air”.
In the last showroom, visitors are in front of a large screen on which is projected a heap of letters, postcards, archives from the museum and packets, arranged here and there. The hundreds of virtual letters fly away and scatter when the visitor moves on an interactive floor. According to their movements, the letters or postcards make larger and bigger up to become readable. When spectators/actors go out from the interactive floor, the letters fall on different way, reflecting the perpetual renewal of the installation. “Letters in the air” shows a portrait of the correspondence which connects all and the evolution from handwritten letter to email.
