Magic carpet is an installation that deploys itself on the Castel del Monte’s courtyard floor at sunset. This architectural masterpiece was built in relation with the number 8. It has been studied to create light symmetries during solstice and is classified as a historic monument by UNESCO since 1996.
Magic Carpet intends to revisit traditional mosaic with digital art, which is very present in this architecture and in Italy. Black and white pixels together create a painting. They are volatile and perform a choreography on Jacopo Baboni Schilingi’s composition. In this installation, the entire world is pixelated as the octagonal form. As a result, the spectator can build a bridge between fire and water. During the pixels' movements, floor’s shape can change drastically.
